June Meeting Minutes

We had a good showing at the last meeting of 19 members. The meeting was outside and the weather was perfect even if it was a bit noisy.

Ask a Brewer? Q: What type of beer to brew when it’s hot out? A: Belgium or a Saison, of course!

Dwayne handed out club business cards, they look great! On the back is an invitation to come to the meeting with information. So sign the back before you give it away.

Members Jeff, Brad, and Tab brought home 4 Home Brewer’s winning ribbons from the San Diego Fair (Del Mar Fair) for their home brews. Quaff, North County Brewers, Barley Engineers, & Temecula County Brewers were there with pop-ups for shade and their banners. Anyone interested in it as a club event next year (if the fairgrounds aren’t sold)?

Ken reported on the set-up activities to brew his Aloha Plenty. M&M Nut House in Fallbrook will be importing the Macadamia nuts. Update: When we saw Ken at the San Diego International Beer Fest on Friday, June 26, he was getting ready to get all the coconut toasted in preparations for brewing Monday, June 29th. Afterwards, there will be a “Meet the Brewer’s” event on the patio from 6-8 p.m. at Stone. Bring a brew to share, order dinner on your own or not.

Speaking of the San Diego International Beer Festival, did anyone go? Over 60 breweries all in the Chevy Del Mar (covered) Arena. Really good beers!

Stone has a new event coordinator Laura. We selected 4 items from the menu to order from for next time; Buffalo Burger, Sausage Platter, Tofu Stir Fry, and Ribs (appetizer).

Upcoming events:
July 4th cookout at Tom’s house, arrive between 3:30 – 4:00 p.m. and we’ll eat at 6:00 p.m.. Bring a dish and a brew. Tom is retiring from brewing and will have brewing supplies at a reduced price; kegs, etc. Too bad he can’t sell his brewing secrets, also!

Oktoberfest the last weekend in Sept at Dixon Lake, see Mike Buck for details or to reserve a spot. We are hoping to get an entire camping section on the top of the hill for the club. It will be a campout, potluck, breakfast, & potato gun event.

Temecula wine tour – need minimum of 12 and maximum of 14 people (club members 1st please), see Paul for details or to reserve your seat.

Escondido Streetfaire – Oct 18th to tell potential new members about the Barley Literates. Can you volunteer for a 3.5 hour shift? Please contact Mike for details. Sorry, no beer samples. But Stone does have a Beer Garden, so maybe between shifts?

October ? – Pub Crawl. We are just beginning to put together. Let Mark Bancroft know if you have any ideas for breweries to visit. Same as last year? Different breweries? Different local?

See you next meeting Wed., July 15th, 6:30 at Stone!
